Permanent Lighting FAQ for GTA Homeowners

Answers about permanent exterior LED lighting, installation, pricing, Christmas lighting, app controls, Ontario weather and warranty, all in one place.

Permanent Lighting

The basics: what permanent exterior LED lighting is and how it fits your home.

What is permanent exterior LED lighting?

Permanent exterior LED lighting is a professionally installed system that sits neatly under your soffits or roofline and stays in place year-round. You control colours, brightness and schedules from an app, with no exposed wires or clips.

Can you see permanent lights during the day?

They are designed to be virtually invisible by day. Because the lights sit neatly under your soffits and roofline, the natural look of your home is preserved. At night, the same system provides clean architectural lighting.

Can I use permanent lights for more than Christmas?

Yes. The same system works for Christmas, Halloween, Canada Day, Diwali, special events and subtle everyday lighting. You switch looks from your phone, so one installation covers the whole year instead of a few weeks of seasonal lights.

Are permanent lights worth it?

For most homeowners who plan to stay in their home, permanent lighting is a strong upgrade: no yearly hanging, a clean built-in look, and lighting for any occasion. The upfront cost is real, so it comes down to how much you value convenience. Our guide covers the benefits, downsides and costs.

Pricing

What permanent lighting typically costs in the GTA and what shapes your quote.

How much does permanent lighting cost in the GTA?

Permanent lighting projects typically range from $2,000 to $7,000+, depending on project size, footage, roofline complexity, access and installation design. Smaller, simple front-of-home projects may fall toward the lower end, while larger or more complex installations can exceed the upper end. $2,000 is not a guaranteed starting price.

What affects the price of permanent lighting?

Price depends on how many linear feet of lighting are needed, how complex your roofline is, how difficult the home is to access, and the installation design. A front-of-home project will cost less than a full wrap.

Can I light just the front of my home?

Yes. A front-of-home layout covers the most visible areas and is more budget-friendly than a full wrap. A full wrap lights the entire home for maximum visual impact. Many homeowners start with the front and expand later.

Do you offer free quotes?

Installation

Where we install, what to look for in an installer, and how to get started.

Where on my home are permanent lights installed?

Lights are installed cleanly into the soffit or a proper track system along your roofline, so the look is built into the home rather than clipped on. Front-of-home and full-wrap layouts are both possible. Our gallery shows real examples on GTA homes.

Can homes with complex rooflines have permanent lighting?

Yes. Homes with multiple peaks, corners and elevation changes can be lit, though they take more time, precision and labour, which is reflected in the quote. Two-storey homes, steep rooflines and limited-access areas can also increase installation time and overall cost.

What should I look for in a permanent lighting installer?

Look for lights installed cleanly into the soffit or a proper track system, fully hidden and protected wiring, a system built for Canadian weather, and a clear, reliable warranty. Installation quality matters as much as the product itself.

Which areas of the GTA do you serve?

RoyalShine installs permanent LED lighting across Vaughan, Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington and Richmond Hill, plus surrounding areas such as King City and Nobleton. If you are not sure whether we cover your neighbourhood, get in touch and we can confirm for your address.

Ontario Weather

How permanent lighting is designed for Canadian conditions.

Are permanent lights built for Ontario winters?

RoyalShine installs systems designed to handle Canadian weather year-round, mounted neatly under your soffit and roofline. Not every product performs the same, and lower-quality systems can struggle in Canadian weather over time, which is why product quality and installation matter. Ask us about the system for your home when you request a quote.

App & Controls

Controlling colours, patterns, brightness and schedules from your phone.

How do I control permanent lights?

Permanent lighting is controlled through an app on your phone. Once it is installed, you can switch colours, create holiday scenes, set schedules and turn the lights on or off instantly, with no ladders and no seasonal setup.

Can I change colours and patterns?

Yes. The app lets you change colours, patterns, brightness and effects, so you can go from subtle everyday lighting to full-colour displays for the holidays whenever you like.

Can I set schedules for my lights?

Yes. You can set schedules in the app so the lights turn on and off when you want, and switch scenes for different occasions without ever touching the lights themselves.

Warranty & Lifespan

What backs your system and how long it is rated to last.

How long do permanent lights last?

The lighting is rated for up to 50,000 hours, which can translate to 20+ years of typical nightly use. That is a rating and an estimate based on typical use, not a guaranteed lifespan, and real-world results depend on the installation and how the lights are used.

What warranty comes with permanent lighting from RoyalShine?

RoyalShine permanent lighting is backed by a 10-year product warranty + 10-year dealer warranty. A clear and reliable warranty is one of the things worth looking for in any installer, so ask us for the details when you request your quote.

Christmas & Holiday Lighting

Using permanent lighting for Christmas and every other celebration.

Can permanent lights be used for Christmas?

Yes. With permanent lighting you never have to hang Christmas lights again. Use the app to create holiday scenes with your choice of colours and patterns, then switch to another look when the season ends. There is no ladder work and no seasonal installation each year.

How do permanent Christmas lights compare with traditional string lights?

Permanent lighting looks cleaner, with no hanging wires or clips, and is controlled from your phone. Traditional lights cost less upfront but need installing, removing and storing every year. Our guide compares appearance, convenience, safety and cost.

Do I still need to hang lights every year?

No. Permanent lighting stays installed year-round, so there is no yearly hanging, untangling, removing or storing of lights. You change the look from your phone instead.
